One Week update

Well, we have been home for a week now! We have learned that a newborn controls everything we do! She's been a lot of fun this week, but has her nights and days confused which makes for REALLY long nights for daddy and mommy. The pediatrician suggested we try to wake her up during the day, but she has absolutely no interest when we try to wake her. I guess we will have to try harder.

Brooke went to the pediatrician this week twice. She gained weight, and is now up to 8 lbs, 2.5 oz. When she left the hospital, she was 7 lbs, 13.4 oz.

She also had to see the orthopedic doctor for her hips on Thursday. She has been diagnosed with "congenital subluxable hip" where the hip is in place, but dislocates partially when stressed. She has to wear a harness for the next six weeks which keeps her legs in a frog position. She doesn't seem to mind it at all but her parents are sad for her. When the doctor told us, my eyes filled up with tears and I managed to keep them in until we reached the elevator. Since her appointment, I have gotten better but Thursday was a hard day. It also makes breast feeding and changing much more difficult, but we will manage. Her hips are supposed to have a 22 degree angle from some point to another point, and her right is a 30 degree and her left is a 35 degree angle. So, 39 more days of a brace and she has to wear it all of the time except bathing! :( The good news: with hip click being caught so early, she should be fixed in six weeks and then we will just have to follow up with x rays to make sure it is repaired. Please keep Brooke in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Brooke is happy to have some pink clothes now, rather than yellow and green. :)

Look for another update soon.
